Who we are

Pilgrimages Abroad
was established in 1995 and is one of Ireland’s leading travel companies providing a wide range of pilgrimages at unbeatable prices. We strive to provide customers with valuable spiritual journeys and memorable experiences and therefore thousands of happy pilgrims return to travel with us year after year. Our dedicated staff have a strong track record of reliability and excellent customer service. We operate flights from Cork, Shannon, Belfast, Kerry, Knock, and Dublin Airport and would be happy to tailor-make a pilgrimage to suit your Parish’s needs.

Our sister company, Joe Walsh Tours, is the largest fully Irish owned tour operator providing group travel to pilgrimage destinations. Traveling with Pilgrimages Abroad, you will benefit from our personal attention and professional service throughout and we look forward to welcoming you on one of our pilgrimages.

Meet the Team

Yvonne Maguire

Yvonne, who was born and bred in Dublin, joined us nearly a quarter of a century ago and like a good wine, she only gets better as the years go on! Yvonne was hired by Joe Walsh Tours back in 1993 and then moved to Pilgrimages Abroad, in 1995 to look after groups travelling to various religious destinations. In January 2017 the Pilgrimages Abroad staff moved into our Joe Walsh Tours office on Baggot Street so now we have the pleasure of their company on a daily basis. Yvonne finds it rewarding when group leaders, who have worked hard to get their groups together, return with positive experiences & are happy with their trip. Yvonne likes helping pilgrims get the most out of the pilgrimage that they saved hard for and were so looking forward to. When Yvonne’s not busy preparing flight manifests or whizzing around making bookings on Osprey you can find her spending time with her two children & socialising with friends. Yvonne’s peers describe her as the life & soul of the party, always willing to help and has a permanent smile on her face!

  • Top Tip: Bring comfortable walking shoes & prepare for all weather – Lourdes is right beside the Pyrenees so even though it could be 30 degrees, it could be lashing rain so a rain jacket is a must!
  • Favourite travel destinations: Florida – I’m a big child at heart!

Mary Butler

Mary initially planned on joining us for a short week but nearly twenty years later, we’re still lucky enough to have her on board! Mary was born and bred in Dublin and prior to joining us she worked in PJ Bourke Theatrical Costumiers and also with Irish Life Assurance. She has a keen interest in theatre, preferably musical theatre, and during her free time you’ll find Mary down in the Olympia watching the likes of The Sound of Music or Sweeney Todd. When Mary’s not relaxing with her family or pottering around in her garden she snaps back to her day job and you’ll find her helping pilgrims and organising tours in the office. Mary enjoys dealing with Group Organisers, pilgrims and of course with the team wonderful in Fatima. She’s delighted when the pilgrimages they planned together go smoothly and they’re an enjoyable experience for all parties involved. Mary’s peers describe her as a character! She has a unique wit and beams radiance!

  • Top Tip for Fatima: Pack your case for an Irish Summer – the weather can be absolutely beautiful but you can have the odd very heavy shower. Also, bring something warm and cosy to wear to the Sanctuary for the Rosary Procession at night.
  • Favourite travel destinations: Gran Canaria
